Racial Justice Learning + Action
Earlier this year, our Well community began a new monthly meetup designed to help us support, encourage and learn alongside one another in our efforts toward racial justice. Our facilitator & fellow-learner on the journey, Mae Beth Ragland, shares her thoughts here about what this group has meant to her:
When I was invited to the first gathering for this group a few months ago, I was so grateful to participate with others from The Well. As I had been on my own journey of learning from people of color/culture, it was important for me to be able to talk with others who were desiring to learn as well. Basically, I showed up because I knew I needed community to walk alongside of.
Over the last few months as we have met and gotten to know one another better, I feel like we are asking important questions, and we are genuinely trying to urge one another on to seek justice where we are, in the platforms we have, wherever that may be. This group is for anyone who wants to listen, to be honest with our own stories, to share ideas, and to help us confront our own racism, our own privilege. By showing up with one another, we are learning how and when and where we can take action. It is a slow journey, but so important that we go about it in the way of love and care for the liberation of all people.
This ongoing gathering for mutual learning happens again on Wednesday, November 17th at 6:30 p.m.. at Aardwolf Brewing Co. (1461 Hendricks Ave.). We’ll listen, share stories, wrestle with questions & conspire together around ways we can disrupt racism in & around us. We’d love for you to join us.
