Lent: Preparing the Soil

The Well at Springfield 32206As followers of Jesus, it is the time of year that we journey to the cross and prepare to celebrate Christ’s resurrection. We do this because we cannot know the gift of new life until we recognize our need for it. From the earliest of times, the focus of Lent was on preparation for baptism and later on the renewal of one’s baptism. It has involved self-examination, prayer, fasting, and the taking on of new behaviors. These things were not meant to be done as empty ritual, but rather to lead us into deeper conversion. In a way, Lent is the time we prepare the soil for new growth. It is a season of preparing our minds, hearts and spirits to experience new life through Christ. As a faith community, there are several ways we will journey together through the season of Lent. Through a variety of gatherings (listed below), it is our hope that we will enter more fully into the life, death and resurrection of Jesus.
