Sabbath Sunday Weekend & Clean Up: Each 5th Sunday, instead of our regular Sunday gathering, we depart the "work of the people". & enoy some rest, renewal & reflection on our own. Check out our blog for more info and for some alternatives to our Sunday gathering. As part of this weekend, we are launching one of the ideas brought up in our "conspiring together for good" session. We are hosting our first quarterly clean up & here's the invitation from Patti: This Sunday is Sabbath Sunday and what a great opportunity to show a little self-care and community-care with a Neighborhood Clean-up. Set out WHEREever you choose (and in fact, WHENever you choose, whether it’s on Sunday or a day/time that works for you). In addition to grabbing that trash, let’s have a little fun with it: a Photo Contest and a Reflection Inspiration. Here’s how it works:
#TRASHTAG PHOTO CONTEST
Have you seen the #Trashtag Challenge? In the Trashtag Challenge, users pick a place filled with litter, bag it up, and post before and after pictures. When you post, use the hashtag #trashtag, on Facebook, Instagram and/or Twitter. By using this #trashtag, it goes viral and inspires others to do the same!
On this event page, POST YOUR BEFORE/AFTER #TRASHTAG PHOTOS, AND WE'LL VOTE ON THE BEST. Extra points for goofy ones too! We’ll vote on the best, and the winner will get their very own Cold Bernie sticker from BobbyK! Because, you *know* Bernie would be out there rocking the #Trashtag challenge even in his mittens.
REFLECTION and INSPIRATION
While you’re out there picking up trash, consider using it as an opportunity for reflection and inspiration. Think about these questions:
1. What kind of trash do you see most often?
2. What does it make you think about in terms of how it got there, and the lives of those who may have left it?
3. Is there a role for The Well community beyond picking up trash?
Share your thoughts with us here, or in our next Zoom gathering.
What you’ll need to participate
• Plastic bag to collect trash
• Gloves
• Pick-up stick (optional; Amazon sells an affordable “grabber tool”, if you’re so inclined. Link below.)
