Lent with The Well
Lent is almost here. This season of the church year lasts forty days, not counting Sundays, beginning on Ash Wednesday and ending on Holy Saturday. At The Well, we mark this as an intentional time to reflect, take stock and renew our commitments to the way of Jesus and with The Well, our covenant community. You are invited to mark this significant time with us.Beginning Ash Wednesday, February 10th (6 p.m. at the Third and Main Center), you are invited to journey with us through sacred stories, both the ones Jesus told and our own.Stories filled Jesus' teaching. They were called parables, parabollo in the Greek. To tell a parable meant to place one thing alongside another. Through parables, Jesus used familiar words and experiences to challenge dominant ways of thinking and living, and to invite people into new ways of thinking and living. Parables were subversive stories that expressed the upside down kingdom of God. During our Lenten community worship gatherings, we'll explore the unique parables or stories of Jesus as told in Luke's gospel. We'll consider how they challenge us to embrace new ways of thinking and living - including what we may need to feast on and fast from.During Lent, we will not only set aside time to hear the stories Jesus told; we will also hear and tell our own stories. We will take a break from our weekly We Make the Road by Walking group to gather around our sacred stories. We will make space to share our spiritual journeys with one another and consider (or re-consider) our covenant with the Well community. To participate in this annual covenant group, we ask that you sign-up in advance, take part in any “homework” & assigned readings, and pledge to participate in all five sessions. We will meet for five consecutive Wednesdays from 6-8 p.m. starting on February 17, 2016. For more information, contact Gail (gap350@outlook.com).
