Dinner, Discussion & We Make the Road by Walking
We are at a pivotal time in the Christian faith.Church as usual is no longer addressing the spiritual questions and longings of our world. Many people are longing fornew expressions, new vehicles andeven new mapsfor God’s pioneering Spirit to move us in new directions. Many have walked away from church, convinced it can’t happen. There are too many flaws, too many challenges, too many mistakes to overcome.Others are determined to listen, learn and make a new way forward. They are determined to play a part in making safe spaces for skeptics, sinners, saints and still-not-sures to engage in transformational spirituality. It’s called re-imagination.That desire for re-imagination helped give birth to The Well at Springfield. It’s an adventure for sure. Yet, God has been working to birth something new through our little community of faith.Perhaps you can resonate with that longing, or at the very least you are looking for a place and a group of people with whom you can question, wonder, seek and discover. Maybe you’ve had your faith de-constructed and are looking for a way to experience spiritual reorientation. Perhaps you are exploring Christianity for the first time, and want to know the whole story (not just the parts that make us comfortable). OR, maybe you are just wanting community, a shared meal and a place to belong.Whether those statements describe you or not, we would love for you to be part of a new adventure we are beginning this December. It’s Advent after all, the season to get ready for God to do a new thing. We Make the Road By Walking by Brian McLaren will be our guide for discussion and discovery. It is a resource designed to walk us through the church year and engage us in deep questions. It’s meant to enliven our spiritual journeys, not just for our sake, but for the sake of the world. We will begin this new adventure on Wednesday, December 2nd at 6 p.m. Each weekly gathering will take place in a Well participant's home or another community space. We will begin with a potluck meal and then move into a time of discussion. Books are available through The Well for $10 (suggested donation) or they can be purchased through Amazon or Barnes & Noble or any major book store. If purchasing a book creates a financial hardship for you, please let Gail or Susan know. We also encourage participants to keep a journal of what you are learning through the shared reading, conversation and personal reflection. We would love for you to join us for any or all of these weekly gatherings. Invite a friend, co-worker or neighbor to join you.
